公益行 | 我们需要具备这样的能力:看见、倾听、理解、尊重、帮助

德育领域常常涉及到一个大家都耳熟能详的关键词:悦纳。悦纳是一种看见和包容的能力,既看见包容自己身上的特征,不卑不亢,同时也能够看见和包容别人的存在,彼此尊重。


这是融侨赛德伯学校长期以来最为重视和培养的能力之一,为此我们每年都在开展相关活动,尽可能为学生们提供“看见他人”、“倾听他人”、“理解他人”、“尊重他人”、“帮助他人”的机会。

爱丁堡公爵奖(以下简称DofE)是我校德育环节的支持项目之一,其考核项中包含了社会服务,该项目要求学生们尽可能地参与社会公益项目、慈善活动等,以培养学生的同理心和服务他人意识。


5月16日,我校与福建省心启航助残帮扶中心(以下简称“心启航”)再次合作,开展了自闭症青少年足球日。


经过专门的培训后,融侨赛德伯学校的18名学生带着他们的真诚和耐心,与20位来自心启航的“星星的孩子”们携手为友,在我校的体育馆内共同完成足球训练比赛。

为了让大家了解更多关于这次活动的故事,我们对我校爱丁堡公爵奖协调员James Rudd和两位参与活动的学生进行了采访对话——

Q1:

我们了解爱丁堡公爵奖需要学生完成户外探险和许多自我挑战。你能跟我们说说这次关爱自闭症慈善活动是如何支持DofE的锻炼目标呢?

爱丁堡公爵奖的锻炼目标分为5个部分,志愿者行动、体育锻炼、技能、探险旅行、当地体验活动,根据奖项级别的不同,需要完成的目标也有所差异。目前我们的大多数学生在争取完成铜奖和银奖,而少数学生将挑战自我争取金奖。


DofE要求参与者必须完成一个志愿服务项目,他们将自己的时间投入到社区服务中,为社会做出积极的贡献并学会承担社会责任。学生需要将其服务进度和时长记录在线上平台,一旦达到DofE相应级别的所需时长,即完成该项任务。


5月16日举行的自闭症慈善活动为我们的学生再次提供了一个回馈当地社区的机会,他们在帮助弱势儿童学习和玩乐的同时,也进一步掌握了体育技巧和沟通技巧。

Q1: We understand that Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme involve expeditions and students challenging themselves. Can you explain how the Autism event today supported the aims of DofE?


A: The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is split into 5 sections depending on the level of the Award. The majority of our students attempt to complete Bronze and Silver levels, with a select few really challenging themselves and push for Gold.


Within all levels, students must complete a voluntary service section, where participants dedicate their time to their communities, making a positive contribution to society and demonstrating social responsibility. Students log their progress on their online record book and when the required number of hours have been achieved, the participant completes their desired level. 


The Autism event held on the 16th May gave our students the chance to give their time back to the local community and help a number of disadvantaged children with sports and communication skills, whilst also learning and having fun.

Q2:

学生们是如何参与志愿服务活动的组织、策划与执行过程的?


 Mr.Rudd

我们在每周日都会定期举行DofE会议,讨论议题便是如何为社会做贡献。其实,受新冠疫情影响,这项活动的落地已经拖了很长时间,去年我们只能把志愿活动开展的区域限制在校内,今年终于可以和外部进行合作,所有人都非常期待。


我们学生们一直以来都才思敏捷,乐于助人。去年12月举行的“教老师说中文”活动、与小学部学生的晚间共读计划、帮助学院工作人员计划等,这些活动想法都是学生自己提出的,他们也十分热情地参与其中,收获了满满的成就感。


此外,我们一直与 “林文镜慈善基金会”紧密合作,过去曾与他们合作举行过许多活动,现在仍在积极寻找未来的合作机会,为下一场活动做准备,相信我们的学生能够从这些活动中获得丰富的体验。

Q: How do students participate in the organization, planning and execution of voluntary service activities?


A: We hold regular DofE sessions on Sundays and as a group, discuss ways in which we can dedicate our time to the benefit of the community. We’ve been very restricted of late due to coronavirus, so this event has been a long time in coming. Last year, we could only limit the areas where volunteer activities were carried out within the school. This year, we can finally cooperate with the outside world.Everyone is looking forward to it.


Our students have always been creative and helpful. A teach-the-teachers event which was held in December last year, and reading to the junior school students in the evening, giving our hardworking boarding staff a helping hand,these activity ideas are all put forward by the students themselves, and they are also very enthusiastic to participate in them and gain a sense of accomplishment.


We work very closely with our partner charity, The Lin Wen Jing foundation, and have held a number of events with them in the past. We’re always in touch looking ahead and planning for our next event as both sets of students get so much out of these experiences.

Q3:

为了这次活动的顺利举行,学生进行了哪些培训?为什么要进行这些培训?

参加这次活动的学生在Anna同学的帮助下接受了自闭症谱系障碍的培训课程。Anna同学是我校12年级的优秀学生,她一直以来都在积极地参加各类慈善活动,在这方面颇有经验。


对于我们的学生来说,他们当中大部分人可能从未有过接触残疾儿童的经历,而自闭症谱系障碍培训正是帮助他们做好相关准备、建立信心的重要方式。学生们在培训中学习了如何与自闭症儿童相处,如何帮助自闭症儿童尽可能地舒适、愉快地参加活动。

Q: What kind of training did the students conduct for the smooth holding of the event? Why are these trainings necessary?


A: 

Students received a number of Autism Spectrum Disorder awareness training sessions delivered by myself with the help of Anna Chen, our wonderful grade 12 student who has been very active in working with the charity. 


For our students, most of them may have never had the experience of contacting children with disabilities, and autism spectrum disorder training is an important way to help them prepare and build confidence. In the training, students learn positive behaviors and ways to get along with children with autism, and learn how to help children with autism participate in activities as comfortably and happily as possible.

Q4:

人们对于自闭症通常存在哪些误解?


 Mr.Rudd

人们对自闭症的确存在很多误解,包括我自己曾经也是,我过去对自闭症患者存在的一个误解便是以为“自闭症患者都是完全相同的”。但我有幸参加并完成了加州大学戴维斯分校的自闭症相关课程,它改变了我过去对自闭症的一些误解。


首先,ASD(自闭症谱系障碍)指的是一系列的发育障碍,每一种都有不同的症状,因此不是所有的自闭症患者都完全相同。尽管大多数自闭症患者在社交、沟通和重复刻板行为方面遇到相同的困难,但他们仍可能有截然不同的问题,并且拥有不同技能。因此专业人士会为每个人独立设计有效的干预和支持方案。


第二个常见的误解是“ASD(自闭症谱系障碍)患有智力障碍”。实际上,自闭症患者通常具备正常甚至较高的智商水平。自闭症和智力障碍,这两种情况之间的医学区别仍然难以定义,其中部分原因是因为大多数与自闭症相关的基因同时也会表现出智力障碍,患有自闭症的人确实往往会在交流和学习行为上遇到困难,因此这两种情况常被混淆。

Q: What comment misconceptions are there of autism?


A: There are a number of misconceptions of autism, the first that stands out for me is that all people on the Autism Spectrum Disorder are the same. I am lucky enough to have completed a course with the University of California Davis (which one of our amazing grade 12 students has been offered a place at for next year!) which really modified some of the misconceptions I previously had. With regards to the one-size-fits-all misconception, ASD refers to a group of developmental disorders, each with a wide range of symptoms. Although most people with autism share common difficulties when it comes to socializing, communicating and repetitive behaviors, they can still have vastly different disabilities and importantly, skills. Interventions and support are designed on an individual level and what may benefit one child may not be the right support for another. 


A second common misconception is that people with ASD are mentally disabled. In fact they often have normal to high IQ levels. Medical distinction between the two conditions remains hard to define, however, in part because most genes associated with autism are also present with intellectual disabilities. People who have ASD tend to struggle with communication and learning behaviours and as a result, the two conditions are often mistaken for one another.

 A:The smiles on the faces of everyone involved. It’s impossible to explain this in writing, so I’ll sum up the day with this fabulous photo…

Interview with Anna Chen(G12)


Q1:

我们了解到,你一直在大力支持帮助自闭症儿童,并试图改变人们对自闭症的看法。你能分享一下你在这过程中经历的故事吗?


 Anna

得益于RQSS为我们创造的机会,心启航自闭症组织自2019年以来已经是第四次来到我们学校了。


第一次是通过讲座形式初步了解了关于自闭症的基本知识,随后我们也和自闭症孩子们一起参加了足球比赛。这一次的接触让我们更直观、深刻地了解自闭症儿童看待世界的方式与我们有多不一样。

 

第二次接触,是我们陪伴自闭症儿童一起过圣诞节。那一次,我在陪伴一个孩子装饰圣诞树,当时我问了他长大后想做什么,他告诉我他想成为一棵圣诞树,就像他正在装饰的那棵,装满了礼物。过了一会儿,我再次问了他同样的问题,但他又有了不同的回答:“我想成为圣诞老人,他能给别人带来礼物和快乐。”


自闭症儿童也被称为“星星的孩子”,他们心中充满了善良和幸福。我听说,他们在接受信息时是有选择性的,只对自己热爱的东西感兴趣。

 

2021年4月1日,世界自闭症关注日的前一天,我作为志愿者参加了他们的会歌发布会活动,那是一次自闭症儿童上台向公众表演的机会。


我看到他们在台上兴奋地向亲朋好友挥手致意,看到他们仍不能很好地控制协调自己的肢体动作,但也看到他们所展现出的努力与进步,以及对生活的积极态度,这让我和其他观众都深受感动。

 Q1: You have been heavily involved supporting autistic children and trying to change people opinions about the condition. Can you share the story you experienced in the process?


 A: 

According to what I have been doing to help, thanks to the opportunities we had in RQSS, Xin Qi Hang autism organization has come to our school four times since 2019, the first time was done by lecture, from which we gained the basic knowledge of what is autism, followed by the football match together with the autistic children, that practical experience gave us a deeper understanding of how their ways of seeing the world differs from us.


The second time we had together with autistic children was during the Christmas period.During the process of accompany a child who is busy in decorating the Christmas tree, I asked him what do you want to be when you grow up. He thought for a while and said: ‘I want to be a Christmas tree.’ Like the one he was decorating, full of gifts and presents. After a while, I asked him the same question, but he responded with a different answer:“I want to be the Santa Claus, who can bring gifts and happiness to others.”


Autistic children are also called the children of the stars, with kind and happiness in their hearts. I've heard that when they receive information, they are selective and only interested in what they are interested in. 


On April 1st 2021, one day before the World’s Autism Awareness day, I took part in their ceremony activity as a volunteer, the show gave autistic children a chance to perform to the public. On the stage, they waved excitedly to their families and friends. As an audience, I feel that because of the symptoms of autism, they can't control their movements well, but they showed their efforts and progress, as well as their positive attitude towards life, which moved all the audience.

Q2:

在5月16日活动开始之前,你是如何帮助其他学生开展针对自闭症的培训?


 Anna

在5月16日星期日之前,爱丁堡公爵奖协调员Mr. Rudd为我们准备了一次讲座,在讲座中,他分享了关于自闭症的知识,以及我们可以为自闭症儿童做的力所能及之事。那天我也在讲座上和大家分享了我陪伴自闭症儿童的一些经验。


通过那次培训,大家了解到一些基本知识,例如自闭症患者不喜欢噪音太大的地方,他们通常有刻板的行为模式等等, 这些基础知识为我们后来举办足球日体验活动建立了概念性的框架。

Q2: Before the event started on May 16, how did you help other students develop training on autism?



A: Prior to Sunday 16th May, Our Doe organizer Mr. Rudd had prepared a presentation to us sharing the knowledge about autism and the things we can do to help and the correct way to support them. I also shared with the class with my experience of accompany autistic children. From that session, we learnt that people with autism don’t like the place with too much noise and usually have stereotyped behaviour patterns. This has built a conceptual framework for our next week's practical experience.

Q3:

你希望大家对自闭症和自闭症儿童增加哪些了解?


 Anna

据统计,自闭症患者的概率大概是1/50。我希望能有更多人增加对自闭症的了解,打破偏见,让患有自闭症的群体能够更好的被大众接纳,他们并不是与我们不同,只是看待世界的方法不同。希望大家能够给予自闭症患者更多理解与尊重,支持、肯定他们对这个世界的向往与热爱,一起帮助他们实现自身价值。

Q3: What do you want everyone to know about autism and autistic children?


A: According to statistics, the probability of children with autism is about 1 to 50, I hope that more people can increase their understanding of autism and break the prejudice, people with autism can be better accepted by the public. They are not different from us, just unique in their ways of looking at the world. If we can give autistic people more understanding and respect, so as they can continue their pursuit and love of the world, and also help them to achieve their values.

Q4:

在这次活动中,你有了哪些收获?


 Anna

自从接触了自闭症孩子们之后,我也感受到了自己的变化,现在处理事情的方式变得更包容,更开放了。其实,我们身处的环境正是因为多样性存在而变得多彩。


在我担任志愿者期间,我对“共同成长”这四个字有了更深刻的理解。在自闭症患者的周遭,有时刻关注着他们的父母,有社区集体的帮助,还有和我们一样的更多志愿者,大家都在为了自闭症群体能够更好生活而努力。


我自己也真切感受到了何为“施比受更有福”。

Q4: How do you feel the event benefited you?



A: Since I came into contact with autistic children, I have also felt my changes, and the way I handle things has become more tolerant and open.The environment we live in has become colorful because of the diversity. 


During my time as a volunteer, I have a deeper understanding of the four words "growth together". Around the autistic patients, there are always paying attention to their parents, community collective help, and more volunteers like us. Everyone is working hard for the autistic group to have a better life.


In the process of becoming a volunteer, my value was recognized, and I realize that it is much more fulfilling and meaningful to help others to overcome their challenges so they can succeed.

Q1:

接触自闭症儿童前后,你对他们的认知是否发生了变化?


 Jennifer

在开始本次活动之前,我对自闭症群体知之甚少,只知道这是一种较严重,甚至会影响到日常生活的一种精神疾病。我还未与他们真正接触和交流过,我感到很紧张。


但当我真正见到这些患有自闭症的小朋友们之后,我发现我的紧张是多余的。其实他们也像我们一样,就是一群普通的孩子,并不像人们过去在偏见和误解中所说刻画的那样,不说话,不与人接近。他们只是在理解方面稍微比同龄人差了一点,需要我们去耐心的引导他们。

Q1: Has your perception of children with autism changed before and after you interacted with them?



A: Before this event, I knew very little about autism. I just knew it was a kind of mental illness, which was serious, even affecting daily life. I haven't really  communicated with them, and I feel very nervous.


In fact, they are just like us, just a group of normal children. They are not as portrayed in prejudice and misunderstanding in the past,such as they do not speak and are not close to others.They just can’t understand something very hard for them, they need us to help them patiently.

Q2:

这次活动让你印象最深刻的是什么?


 Jennifer我印象中最深刻的就是,和我分在同一个小组的一个小朋友在听从指令的方面稍微有一些困难,需要我们在活动过程中耐心的引导他。刚开始时进行活动时,我们一直失败,但在最后,他能够跟着指令一步一步的把足球踢到目的地,当他意识到自己顺利完成了任务的时候,他非常开心激动,还十分认真的和我击掌庆祝。


活动结束后,我对这群可爱的小朋友产生了不舍,他们真正改变了“自闭症”这个词在我心中的概念,他们现在在我心中就是一群会笑的,会闹的,来自星星的孩子们。

Q2: What impressed you most about this event?



A: What impressed me most was a boy who was in my group. He had a little difficulty following the instructions, and needed me to guide him. At the beginning of the event, we always failed, but finally, he followed the instruction and achieved the target. He knew the finish of his task, and showed his happiness and excitement, and high five with me.


After the autism event, I didn't want those lovely students to leave our school. They changed the concept of the word “autism” in my heart. They are a group of children who can laugh, can play and who are from the stars.

公益,意在通过注入更多善念,让社会变得更加和谐美好。而我们希望融侨赛德伯的学生们在面对公益时能够始终葆有“心有猛虎,细嗅蔷薇”的心态,即心中有对未来社会的美好愿景,但又不急切,用心地帮助需要之人,踏实地做好应做的事,慢慢地达到心中目标。
